Composer
Tristan Fuentes (AKA Joe Holmquist, TCCP percussionist)
|
Third Chair Chamber Players is ending its 2009–2010 regular
season with a concert featuring the TCCP winds in three unique woodwind
quintets.
Ottorino Respighi, best known for his lush tone poems
(such as “The Pines of Rome”), set his orchestral skills to a lovely
romantic two-movement vignette. Donald Draganski, a Chicago native,
highlights the clarinet and piccolo with his settings of Yiddish folk
melodies. Alexander Tcherepnin's quintet is a charming three-movement
work that reflects his Russian heritage and shows the influence of
Martinu.
Also on the program: a couple of new and innovative works
by American composers. Legendary jazz pianist Chick Corea delved into
the classical music genre with his trio for flute, bassoon and piano.
Composer Justin Rubin's Bagatelles for bassoon and marimba came to our
attention through his colleague at the University of Minnesota in Duluth,
TCCP bassoonist Jeff Campbell.
The evening closes with a premiere of a new work by one of
our favorite composers, Tristan Fuentes. His "Dreams"
includes reminiscenses of earlier works "Gretchen" and
"Pan Am," both performed by TCCP.

TCCP sound
enhanced by new acoustical shell
|
|
NET's Studio One is a great concert venue, but the sound
hasn't been quite the same as our previous concerts at The Loft at the
Mill. For our January concert we brought in an acoustical shell, on
loan from Nebraska Wesleyan University. Musicians and audience members
noticed the difference, and now TCCP has purchased a shell of its own.
The new shell will help turn what is already an excellent recording
space into an even greater performing space for TCCP.
NET has been a wonderful location for this year's TCCP
concerts—its beautiful lobby is perfect for our intermission and
after-concert hors d’oeuvres, and you can't beat the parking. NET is
located at 1800 N. 33rd in Lincoln, just two blocks north of 33rd and Holdrege.
If you haven't been there yet, join us in April and see what the
excitement is all about!

Quilt Study Center & Museum

NET Studio is right next door to a renowned national
treasure—the International Quilt Study Center & Museum. The Quilt
Center is open from 1:30 to 4 pm on Sundays, so you can easily spend an
hour there before our 3 pm Sunday concert. Now showing: Perspectives: Art, Craft,
Design, and the Studio Quilt, called "the most
eye-catching art show in Lincoln" by the Lincoln Journal Star
(Jan. 9, 2010).
The International Quilt Center is located at 1523 N. 33rd,
right on the corner at 33rd and Holdrege.

TCCP returns to
Cambridge this summer
|
|
TCCP's year doesn't end with the April concert. For the
last four years we have traveled west to Cambridge for Concerts on the Creek,
our summer outreach program. This year we have two great programs
planned: “Art of the Cello” on June 26, and “A Little Harp, A Little
Percussion” on July 31.
Concerts on the Creek is a chamber music experience held
twice each summer at the home of Dick Shoemaker and Becky Van de Bogart
in Cambridge, Nebraska. It includes an indoor concert along with light
dinner and beverages served on the deck overlooking the scenic
Republican River valley, with gourmet food provided by local chefs.
