On May 29th TCCP kicked off an exciting summer line-up, performing for NET Television's premiere of "Beef State." The evening was hosted by NPR's "Performance Today" host Fred Childs. Our contribution was performing an overture of sorts for this premiere screening of an original documentary on the beef industry in Nebraska. TCCP gave a rousing rendition of "Beef—It's What's for Dinner" (also known as "Hoedown" by Aaron Copland), which had hands clapping and boots tapping. The documentary is fascinating; click this link to find out more about the Nebraska cattle industry.

In June TCCP and their director, Becky Van de Bogart, received two Mayor's Arts Awards from the Lincoln Arts Council. These awards are given to Lincoln arts events, venues, artists and supporters. The names are submitted by nomination and a judging committee determines the recipients. TCCP was honored this spring for their collaboration with the Angels Theatre Company and Lied Center for Performing Arts on The Train in April 2007, and Van de Bogart received the Lifetime Artistic Achievement Award. The ceremony included a reception at the Lied and a wonderful video interviewing the awardees. If you would like to see the taped interviews, click the YouTube links above. The video itself was directed by Ted Lange, whom you may remember as the bartender on the "Love Boat" TV series.

Chatting after the concert

Chatting after the concert

On June 14th TCCP opened the third season of Concerts on the Creek in Cambridge, Nebraska. Mother Nature conjured up an idyllic evening for the sold-out event. Dick Barnes, owner and chef of Town Talk Restaurant in Cambridge, prepared a Greek buffet of scrumptious foods. Folks arrived early to enjoy a beverage overlooking the verdant Republican River Valley before the buffet. Record rainfalls in spring created a very green canvas.

After dinner TCCP opened with Beethoven's "Duo with Two Eyeglasses Obbligato" for viola and cello, followed by a Mahler quartet; dessert prepared by Gloria Hilton, proprietress of the Cambridge Bed and Breakfast; then more music by CPE Bach and Mozart.

Guests lingered after the performance to chat with the musicians and enjoy the evening air and spectacular sunset.

On August 2nd guitarist Rusty Banks, vibraphone artist Joe Holmquist, and flutist Becky Van de Bogart played a program that covered the gamut from Baroque to Appalachian folk music. Matt Sehnert presented the evening's cuisine, served indoors due to the 100°+ temperatures, to rave reviews. Another sold-out house enjoyed the evening.

A few of our patrons shared their thoughts about the evening:

"Excellent concerts in a wonderful setting."  JG, Gothenburg

"Your music is always refreshing and enjoyable, thanks so much for all your efforts."  SH, Cambridge

"What a treat the whole event was"  AM, Holdrege

"I feel like a changed person and more open to new ideas and feeling positively about rural living and feeling quiet while listening to COTC. The feeling lasts at least a week or two. Thank you for your generous gift to us."  BS, Holdrege
